Species no. 114 for the house list

Nothing special this time; in fact, I had to check my list to see whether this was indeed the first time I'd recorded it. Localised flooding following gales and high tides meant that the fields were full with water and this had attracted an array of birdlife, mainly gulls, Lapwings, Curlews and corvids. But amongst them, nestling in the wet grass and sheltering from the strong wind, were two much smaller birds - undoubtedly 'Commics'. Closer scrutiny of the bill colouration and primary patterning clinched identification: an adult and juvenile Common Tern. No rarity value here, true, but a nice (and long-awaited) addition to the house list.
