I spent a good 4-5 hours at the local woodland this morning, not out of necessity but for the sheer joy of it: Wood Warbler was in full song, I found a pair of Pied Flycatchers building a nest in the hole of a tree right next to the path, a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers were squabbling in the canopy above, and there was a supporting cast of Blackcaps and other commoner birds to entertain me when the scarcer ones fell silent or hid from view.
